The Liebster Award – Recognizing New Bloggers!

liebster-blog-award-21So I  received an e-mail from His Work & Travel Reporter with the news that I’ve been nominated for a Liebster Award, which helps recognize new blogs & bloggers. Thank you for the nomination! It means so much to me. I enjoy your blog as well!

Although this is not a “real” award and more like a “chain”, at least you know that your blog is recognized and read by others.

 The rules are as follows:
-Thank the blogger who gives it.
-Answer the 11 questions she/he asks.
-Nominate 11 bloggers with less than 500 followers
-Ask these 11 bloggers 11 questions.
-Let them know you have nominated them.

Here are my answers to his questions:

How did you come up with your blog name?
Well, this year I’ll be spending more time traveling through Asia than I will in my home country, America. So I thought it would be clever to name it “An American Girl in Asia”!

What is your favorite post from your blog?
Probably the Traveling Light: A Minimalist’s Guide to Packing because I really have fun with packing & gear, and enjoyed photographing how we packed carry-on for these 5 months in Asia.

What are your top 3 favorite foods?
Potatoes [there’s really no wrong way to cook them!]
Cheese [makes everything much yummier]
Chicken [it’s just so good…]

What is on the top of your bucket list or at least the thing you want to do that is on the top of your mind right now?
Since I just crossed off one of my big bucket list dreams, riding an elephant, I would have to say visiting all 7 continents [just Antarctica and South America left!]

Riding the elephant

What is your dream travel destination?
Nepal! Can’t wait to get there in July. Also, Iceland.  No current plans to visit.

If you have a choice to live in a different city tomorrow, what city would it be?
Amsterdam. I LOVE Amsterdam.

How would you describe your hometown to someone who has never been there before?
Tampa, FL is a pretty laid back place, for such a large city. It’s quite transient, as not many people have been born or raised there. There are many colleges & universities, and like most of Florida, many from up north eventually find their way down south. There’s fun to be had if you know where to find it. You have culture & art, nature, beaches & lakes, music & bars and great Cuban food.

If you win a million dollars, how are you going to spend it?
I would probably give most of it way, either to family or friends to help them out, or to causes that I’m passionate about. The rest, I’d travel with it.

If you were a country, what country would you be and why?
When I asked my husband, he said Singapore because I’m tiny & beautiful. Which is why I love him. But I’d say The Netherlands. I agree with the tiny part, but I’m also diverse with bits of conservatism and liberalism all rolled into one. I’m classy, blunt, & smart. And although I can’t pull off orange, I don’t mind trying.

If you were given the chance to pick a talent, what would it be and why?
Speed reading. I love to reading, almost as much as I love traveling, and then I could read even more!

What is your favorite quote, preferably connected to travel?
The world is a book, and those who do not travel, read only a page – St. Augustine.
