This article came together through interviews in the Indonesian language, which I’ve been learning the past two years. I then worked alongside with a friend who grew up here in Bali to help me understand the cultural context. I learned so much about my new island home through this interview and writing this blog. I took weeks’ worth of photos, documenting each stage of the monster building process. It was wild. I hope you enjoy!
