I’ve actually been to Botswana and was captivated by the beauty of the people and the country. I was looking forward to reading a book by an author from this fascinating country. I found Gothataone Moeng’s Call and Response which is actually a collection of short stories.

I don’t read a lot of short stories, and I think it’s because I prefer in depth character and plot development. I enjoyed a couple of the shorter stories, but the final story of the nine included was much longer and definitely my favorite. Each story is set in the same village and therefore the sense of place is strong. All the characters are unique and memorable. By the end of the book, I was surprised how much I actually did enjoy this collection. This was a good pick for this reading challenge.

⭐️ My rating: 4 stars of 5
