An American Mom in Asia

I love a good coming-of-age novel, that’s exactly what I found with Beka Lamb by Zee Edgell. This quick novel is set in Belize, and follows Beka Lamb as a struggling high school freshman. She struggles within her family and against herself as well. Her life is turned upside when Beka’s best friend leaves town and her small community is shaken.

I enjoyed this book, and it was a compelling read for this challenge. I was gripped by the account of the hurricane that rips through the community and the aftermath. This is a well-written thoughtful story with colorful characters that allowed me to feel like I had into Belize.
