This novel by Siamak Hersek was a beautiful and haunting read. He so carefully captured the trauma suffered by Afghani girls during the Taliban regime. It was sometimes unbearably heartbreaking as the story is told with alternating first person narratives. The novel could have benefitted from narrator titles at the beginning of each chapter, because it often switched narrators and could be confusing. The English translation was sometimes a bit rough, but overall it was a quick and chilling read.
